I hated sports and school and dropped out as soon as I could. It’s funny that it was only once I left school that I achieved some success in sports, becoming Scottish and British Champion in Freestyle Skiing in my twenties.
Sports took a bit of a back seat when the kids arrived, but once they gained a degree of self-sufficiency I had a bit more time. I took my running a bit more seriously in my forties, progressing from 10K up to marathon and beyond.
In my late forties I took up triathlon and found that my running endurance transferred well to the longer distances. I’ve done a number of Ironman events (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26 mile run). I completed the first Portugal Ironman event in 2021. I fell in love with the location and have returned each year. We’ll see how long I can keep going!
